Wauna La-Mon'tay Lodge was founded in 1994 from the merger of Skyloo Lodge and Cole Snass Lamatai Lodge. The name incorporates two symbols of commonality between the two lodges. Nearly all of both lodge's patches contained a river and a mountain. "Wauna" means River and "La-Mon'tay" means Mountain in the Chinook Jargon that local Native Americans spoke in this area. Thus Wauna La-Mon'tay means literally "River and Mountain". For the sake of interpretation, members of the lodge translate Wauna La-Mon'tay as the "Willamette River and Mountains".
